Capacity provisioning and failure recovery in mesh-torus networks with application to satellite constellations

چکیده
This paper considers the link capacity requirement for a N N mesh-torus network under a uniform all-to-all traffic model. Both primary capacity and spare capacity for recovering from link failures are examined. In both cases, we use a novel method of “cuts on a graph” to obtain lower bounds on capacity requirements and subsequently find algorithms for routing and failure recovery that meet these bounds. Finally, we quantify the benefits of path based restoration over that of link based restoration; specifically, we find that the spare capacity requirement for a link based restoration scheme is nearly N times that for a path based scheme.

This paper considers the link capacity requirement for an LEO satellite constellation. We model the constellation as an N N mesh-torus topology under a uniform all-to-all traffic model. Both primary capacity and spare capacity for recovering from a link or node failure are examined. متن کاملCapacity Provisioning, Failure Recovery and Throughput Analysis for Low Earth Orbit Satellite Constellations
We investigate the capacity needed to build a restorable satellite network and design routing schemes to achieve high throughput. Speci cally, the rst part of this thesis considers the link capacity requirement for a LEO satellite constellation. We model the constellation as an N N mesh-torus topology under a uniform all-to-all traÆc model. Both primary capacity and spare capacity for recoverin...
متن کاملImpact of Resource Sharability on Dual Failure Restorability in Optical Mesh Networks
Protection capacity re-provisioning mitigates the impact of double-link failures by provisioning new capacity for unprotected demands in a network designed to achieve 100% restorability under singlelink failures. We study the performance of re-provisioning in networks under various resource sharing degrees. Intuitively, the lower is the sharability degree of resources the smaller is the number ...
متن کاملWDM Loop-back Recovery in Mesh Networks
Current means of providing loop-back recovery, which is widely used in SONET, relies on fiber-based recovery, where a fiber is used to back up another fiber. We present WDM-based loop-back recovery for optical networks where wavelengths are used to back up other wavelengths. We present two new algorithms for performing WDM-based loop-back over optical mesh networks. The first algorithm performs...
